Impact of Corona virus on Study Abroad for Foreign Students; The United Kingdom.

IMPACT OF CORONAVIRUS ON STUDY ABROAD FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS; THE UNITED KINGDOM.   Before we look into the impact of Coronavirus on study abroad for foreign students in the UK, let us have a better understanding of this deadly disease known as Coronavirus (COVID-19 ) and its existence in the U.K.   Coronavirus disease (COVID-19 ) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. If you are within proximity of someone who has COVID-19, you could be affected, as this disease is transmitted through droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or exhales. Some of the COVID-19 symptoms are Fever, dry cough, sore throat, loss of taste and smell. The World Health Organization (WHO) an agency of the United Nations in charge of international public health has confirmed that there has been a total of 99. 363. 697 cases, 2.135. 959 deaths and 224 countries, areas or territories with COVID-19 cases.   CORONAVIRUS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM The United Kingdom has been hit particularly hard by the pandemic. The country is currently in its third national lockdown and is battling a high rate of infections, hospitalizations and deaths, caused by a more transmittable variant of the virus. On a positive note, the U.K. is one of the world leaders for the coronavirus vaccination campaign.   IMPACT OF CORONAVIRUS ON STUDYING  IN THE UNITED KINGDOM In the United Kingdom, the coronavirus pandemic has affected education in many ways. To limit the spread of this deadly virus, many universities across the United Kingdom have limited or completely suspended face-to-face teaching and moved to remote learning while others have adopted the hybrid form of learning, which requires spaced-out face-to-face tutoring and digital lectures while observing the COVID-19  protocols. Due to the hybrid learning, measures have been implemented by universities to curb the spread of the deadly virus, these include marking the entry and exit points of buildings; providing hand sanitiser stations, marking of floors and social distances measures.   U.K universities are currently processing applications normally because the U.K is expected to be one of the first countries in the world to be fully vaccinated, likely by September 2021, therefore, the next main student intake is scheduled for September 2021 and students will have access to the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine as it will be administered across the country. However, the coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected students from easily travelling in and out of the United Kingdom as the U.K government has advised foreigners travelling into the country to provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 test result taken up to 3 days before departure and if you do not comply, your airline or carrier may refuse you boarding and you may be fined on arrival. Also, you must self-isolate when you enter the U.K from any foreign country, these rules must be obeyed until the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is issued. “As 2021 begins with a national lockdown due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the higher education sector has set out a range of measures that ensure student welfare remains the priority” Click on the link below to view these measures and how to cope as an international student studying in the United Kingdom. https://www.prospects.ac.uk/applying-for-university/university-life/how-universities-are-changing-in-the-wake-of-covid-19 Negxy Concept Limited is a study abroad agency in Ikeja, Lagos with over 5000 successful admissions and visas under her belt.
