Covid 19 Update for International Students in the UK

COVID 19 UPDATE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN THE UK   COVID 19 VACCINATION IN THE UK The recent Covid 19 update in UK universities, which is the opening of Covid 19 vaccination centres on campuses, makes certain that international students are well protected as they begin their studies in the UK.  In the year 2019, a deadly virus emerged, this virus killed many and caused a general lockdown. Public places, schools, organizations in the UK and around the world were put on lockdown as a way to curb the spread of this deadly virus. Citizens were advised to sit at home and no movement was permitted.  Its been over a year since the virus emerged and organizations, public places and schools have gradually begun to open, especially since the Covid 19 vaccine was established. In addition to the preventive measures of staying at least 1 metre away from others, covering a cough or sneeze in your elbow, frequently cleaning your hands, wearing a mask and avoiding poorly ventilated rooms or opening a window, Covid 19 vaccines were established to prevent people from getting seriously ill and dying from this deadly virus.  A new semester is approaching for universities in the UK, which is the September intake, and the UK government has ensured that universities implement Covid 19 safety measures and are looking to vaccinate students despite the impact of Corona Virus in the UK, to help the universities properly function after over a year of disruption and are hoping to keep online-only courses to a minimum.  Although it’s a personal choice, International students are strongly encouraged to take up the opportunity to get vaccinated against COVID 19, to protect themselves and those around them, both within the university environment and while with their family and friends and also, keep up with Covid 19 update to stay safe.     OPENING OF VACCINATION CENTRES ON CAMPUSES IN UK UNIVERSITIES As restrictions gradually ease and schools begin to open, universities in the UK find it imperative for vaccination to be made easy and convenient for students as the more students are vaccinated, the more transmission can be reduced.  Universities in the UK have begun setting up their own Covid 19 vaccination centres and facilities including pop-up clinics and NHS vaccine buses, in an attempt to make campuses as safe as possible for the autumn term (September Intake). Universities like The University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol and Kingston University in south London have already opened campus vaccination centres, the University of Stirling in Scotland opened a centre to students on Saturday the 14th of August, other universities, including Cardiff, Manchester, Birmingham and Portsmouth have confirmed they are in discussions about setting up vaccination services.  These centres will be run and staffed by the NHS, however, universities are offering to train students to volunteer in them.    The NHS stands for the National Health Service. It refers to Government-funded medical and health care services. Universities in the UK are willing to work with NHS to train students as volunteers.    Contact our counsellors to get more information about the opening of vaccine centres in universities in the UK    Negxy Concept Limited is a study abroad agency in Lagos with over 5000 successful admissions and visas under her belt. These preventive measures and restrictions are as follows:     Wearing face masks in the public.     Covering of coughs and sneezing with a tissue     Washing hands with soap and water often and for at least twenty seconds and the use of hand sanitisers.     Practising good respiratory hygiene Social distancing method for example; Quarantine, Travel restrictions, avoiding of crowded areas, using no-contact greetings and the closing of social centres like Restaurants, Shopping Centers, Theatres, Workplaces and schools etc The COVID-19 pandemic led to the loss of human lives and present an unprecedented challenge to public health and food systems in the UK. The economic and social disruption caused by the pandemic is devastating, a lot of people are at risk of falling into extreme poverty. The COVID-19 pandemic affected education in many ways. Many universities across the United Kingdom limited or completely suspended face-to-face teaching to limit the spread of this deadly virus and moved to remote learning.   Fortunately, new lockdown rules have been put in place since the covid vaccination ( Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine) was founded in the year 2021. This vaccine is for everyone including international students in the UK.   APPROACH TO LIFTING RESTRICTIONS IN THE UK   On 22 February the government announced new lockdown rules in the UK, a staged approach to lifting restrictions in England. There should be minimum social distancing, people should remain 2 meters apart, if this is not possible, they should take precautions to limit transmission.   The following are the Covid-19 workplace guidelines:     People are advised to work from home where possible. Workplaces should follow Covid-secure guidelines including carrying out a Covid-19 risk assessment, introducing increased hygiene and cleaning procedures, maintaining 2meters of distancing where possible, and where this is not possible, steps must be taken to manage transmission risk.   The UK government made new lists of countries that people should and should not travel to, given that the virus is still spreading in many parts of the world.   THE UK TRAVEL LISTS The Uk travel lists consist of new traffic light system rules in the UK, consisting of the Green list, the Amber list and the Red list was put in place to control the lockdown rules in the UK. These lists will be effective from the 17th of May GREEN LIST: The Green List consists of countries that are deemed the safest for holidaymakers from the 17th of May. People will be allowed to fly to and from these countries with fewer restrictions.   Some of these countries are Australia,  Iceland, New Zealand, Israel and Jerusalem etc.   REQUIREMENTS NEEDED AFTER RETURNING FROM COUNTRIES ON THE GREEN LIST.     Passenger Locator Form     Predeparture test at destination     Covid test (PCR testing) should be taken on or before day 2 of returning to the UK.   The Amber and the Red list consists of countries that citizens and non-citizens in the UK are not allowed to travel to for leisure purposes. Also, on return from any of the countries on the red and amber list, one will be subject to certain quarantine measures.   AMBER LIST Some of these countries are: Nigeria, Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, France, the USA, Italy etc   REQUIREMENTS AND QUARANTINE MEASURES AFTER RETURNING FROM COUNTRIES ON THE AMBER LIST     Passenger Locator Form     Predeparture test at destination     Self Isolation of 10 days after returning to the UK     Covid test (PCR testing) should be taken on or before day 2 of returning to the UK     Further PCR testing will be taken on day 8 after returning to the UK   RED LIST Countries in the Red list have the strictest rules, with only UK or Irish nationals and UK residents allowed to return. Some of these countries are Angola, India, Kenya, Bangladesh, South Africa, Turkey etc   REQUIREMENTS AND QUARANTINE MEASURES AFTER RETURNING FROM COUNTRIES ON THE RED LIST     Passenger Locator Form     Predeparture test at destination     Hotel quarantine of 10 days after returning to the UK     Covid test (PCR testing) should be taken on or before day 2 of returning to the UK     Further PCR testing will be taken on day 8 after returning to the UK However, it is important to note that the government will announce one week in advance of the May 17th date whether these new lockdown rules in the UK will be relaxed as planned and the lists would be reviewed every three weeks.  Visit us or speak with our counsellors to get detailed information on the new traffic light system rules in the UK.

Covid-19 Vaccine for International Students in the UK

COVID-19 VACCINE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN THE UK.    Before we look into the Covid-19 vaccine for international students in the United Kingdom, let us have a better understanding of the covid vaccination and its existence in the UK.   WHAT IS A VACCINE  A Vaccine is a medication that is responsible for coaching the body’s immune system to fight diseases that the human body comes in contact with. Vaccines are designed to prevent disease, rather than treat disease once you have caught it. Some example of a vaccine is:  The flu vaccine The HVP ( human papillomavirus) vaccine   After the coronavirus disease emerged in the year 2019, a vaccine was founded in the year 2021, the covid vaccination ( Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine).    CORONAVIRUS VACCINATION    The covid vaccination ( Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine)  gives you the utmost protection against the deadly coronavirus disease. Based on evidence from clinical trials, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was 95% effective at preventing laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 illness.  Here is general information on the covid vaccination.    Name: BNT162b2 Manufacturer: Pfizer, Inc., and BioNTech Type of vaccine: mRNA Number of shots: 2 shots, 21 days apart Method of delivery: Shot in the muscle of the upper arm Click on the link below to get vital information on the Covid Vaccination from the specialized agency of the United Nations, WHO.     https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/coronavirus-disease-(covid-19)-vaccines?adgroupsurvey={adgroupsurvey}&gclid=Cj0KCQiAhP2BBhDdARIsAJEzXlFg_MaK8KG0CxIi8xxZ4ricMTWKvnPalSQeygIM19x8Uk98C1V3LrwaAlR8EALw_wcB   COVID-19 VACCINE IN THE UK   In the UK, 350+ million doses of the vaccine were ordered, which is enough to vaccinate the entire population. The NHS (National health system) is currently offering the Covid 19 vaccine to people that are most at risk from the deadly coronavirus disease.  The vaccinations are being distributed to some hospitals and pharmacies to administer to people under the following group:   People at the age of 60 and above.  People who have high risks of getting infected by the disease. (The clinically extremely vulnerable) People that have moderate risks of getting infected by the disease. (The clinically vulnerable) People that live or work in care homes People that get a carer’s allowance Health and social care workers   COVID-19 VACCINE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS; UK   Although the  Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is currently available, it is yet to be administered to international students in the UK. Sources claim that International students will have access to the vaccine and no charges will be applied to testing or the treatment of COVID-19. However, International students that are diagnosed with medical conditions and are between the ages of 16 and above are to be administered the vaccine from the first week of March 2021 until the end of March 2021.  The older international students are next in line to be administered the vaccine, this would be done before the end of April 2021.    The UK is dedicated to supporting international students in such unusual times and the Universities Minister, Michelle Donelan, offered her gratitude to students for being patient with the provisions offered to combat COVID-19.  The Secretary of Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock stated that “the vaccine along with effective treatment processes will help in managing COVID-19, thus further helping reach normalcy in the future, hopefully”.   The United Kingdom is likely to be the first country to be fully vaccinated before the late spring/early summer of the year 2021, since 350+ million vaccine doses were ordered for a population of 65 million, meaning supply will be sufficient. If this happens, September 2021 entry will be safe for all International students without any hassle.    Negxy Concept Limited is a study abroad agency in Lagos with over 5000 successful admissions and visas under her belt.
