All You Need to Know About the UK e-Visa as an International Student

Transitioning to the UK E-Visa for International Students As you prepare to start your studies in the UK this September 2024—or if you’ve recently arrived—there’s an important update you need to be aware of. The UK is transitioning from physical Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) to a fully digital immigration system called an e-Visa. Whether you’re a prospective student or someone who travelled in previous intakes, understanding this change is crucial for managing your immigration status. What Is a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)? For those new to the UK or planning to study here, a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) is a document that has been traditionally issued to international students. It contains vital information such as your name, date of birth, and biometric details like fingerprints and facial images. The BRP also serves as proof of your right to study and access certain public services in the UK. However, as the UK modernizes its immigration system, these physical BRP cards will be phased out by December 31, 2024. Understanding this shift is essential whether you’re just starting your academic journey or have already settled in.   Introducing the UK e-Visa: Your New Digital Immigration Status The eVisa is the future of UK immigration. Instead of carrying a physical BRP card, your immigration status will now be stored digitally. This eVisa is an online record that you can easily access to prove your right to study, work, or rent in the UK. For prospective students, this means that once you receive your visa approval, you will manage your immigration status through an online account rather than waiting for a physical BRP. Current students, especially those with BRPs expiring soon, will need to transition to this new system. For more details on the eVisa, visit the UK government’s eVisa page.   Why Physical BRPs Are Being Replaced As part of its digital transformation, the UK government has decided that all physical BRPs will expire by December 31, 2024, regardless of the original end date on the card. This move is aimed at improving efficiency and security, making it easier for international students like you to manage your immigration status. If you currently have a BRP, it’s important to begin the transition to a UK e-Visa by creating a UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) account. This digital account will become your primary means of proving your immigration status.    Transitioning to the UK e-Visa: What You Need to Do Whether you’re a prospective student preparing to arrive in September 2024 or a current student already in the UK, transitioning to an eVisa is straightforward: Set Up a UKVI Account: This account is where you’ll access and manage your eVisa. Click here to get started. Verify Your Identity: Use the ‘UK Immigration ID Check’ app to confirm your identity and link your eVisa to your UKVI account. Access and Share Your eVisa: Once verified, you can view your visa details online, share your status with landlords, employers, and educational institutions, and update your information as needed. Click here to watch a step-by-step guide on how to create your UKVI account and access your eVisa.   Preparing for September 2024: Key Steps for New Students If you’re starting your studies this September, you might still receive a BRP card, but with an expiration date of December 31, 2024. Regardless of whether you get a BRP, setting up your UKVI account is crucial for managing your immigration status digitally. Pro Tip: Create your UKVI account before arriving in the UK to streamline your transition, or complete the setup as soon as possible after your arrival. For more information, visit the UKVI registration page.   Conclusion For both prospective and current students, embracing this change will make managing your visa easier and more convenient, allowing you to focus on what matters most—your studies. At Negxy Concept Limited, we’re committed to guiding you through these changes and ensuring your study abroad experience is as smooth and successful as possible.

How to Avoid Common UK Study Visa Mistakes

How to Avoid Common Mistakes When Applying for your UK Study Visa Applying for a UK study visa can be a challenging and bewildering process, this is why it is important to work with experts like us, to assist you on how to avoid common UK Study Visa Mistakes.   WHY THE UK? The UK offers numerous opportunities for prospective International Students looking to achieve their academic goals, due to its prestigious universities and exceptional educational system. Therefore, many international students dream of studying at universities in the UK and every year, thousands of applications for UK study visas are sent in. However, it’s sad to say that many of these students end up making some common mistakes when applying for their UK study visas. In this post, we will be diving into some effective strategies to help you avoid common mistakes when applying for a UK study visa to study an Undergraduate and Postgraduate Program.   IMPORTANT POINTS TO CONSIDER BEFORE APPLYING FOR YOUR UK STUDY VISA According to the UKGOV, there are a few things you need to keep in mind before applying for a student visa. You must be 16 years of age or older Have been received an offer and CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) from a licensed sponsor university You or your parent has the financial means to support yourself and cover your degree expenses, although the exact amount will depend on your individual circumstances. You should be proficient in English, meaning you can understand, speak, read, and write the English Language.   To fulfil the criteria’s above, there are several documentations you would need to process in order to prove that you meet the requirements. It is in the process of proving these requirements that some people provide unsatisfactory documents that can lead to a refusal.   THE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR NIGERIAN STUDENTS A standard visa application process timeline takes about 3weeks for a decision to be made; however, this process can be hastened in 1 week or 24 hours through the priority or super priority visa processing service. The earliest you can apply for your UK student visa is six months before your course start date. Before you can begin your study visa application, you must have been accepted into a University, paid a deposit sum towards your tuition fee and received your CAS (Confirmation of acceptance for study) which will enable you to begin your application process. During the visa application, you would be required to fill an online application form providing personal informational details and school and course details and also provide proof that you have the financial means to support yourself. Once the online application has been provided you are then required to provide supporting documents such as personal identification document, previous education and degrees, proof of English, previous work references if applicable, family document (If moving with dependents) and other relevant documents that may be peculiar to your application such as, an affidavit, proof of financial standing, response to previous visa refusal etc   UK STUDENT VISA APPLICATION FEES When it comes to fees, there are a couple of things to consider. The visa fee itself amounts to £363, and you’ll also need to pay £705 for the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). It’s important to note that these payments are made in dollars at the time of payment. If your application is denied, you can get a refund for the IHS fees, but the rest of the fees are non-refundable. As a Nigerian, you might need to have a credit card or a debit card, which is domiciled with foreign currencies that allows you to make international payments of thousands of dollars to cover your visa processing fees. Other optional payments are Priority visa = £250 Super priority = £956 Assisted Service = ₦‎12,300 Premium Lounge = ₦‎43, 500 Prime Time = ₦‎38, 500 Flexi = ₦‎42, 000 Courier Service = ₦‎9000   WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON UK STUDY VISA APPLICATION PITFALLS There are numerous reasons why a UK study visa might be refused; however, these 5 reasons below are the most common reasons why people get a UK Student visa refusal. Let’s take a closer look at these mistakes to ensure a smooth and successful application process.   1. DOCUMENTATION Providing incomplete documentation can lead to a refusal if the visa officer is not able to verify e.g; your previous educational qualification and how it aligns with your current study, previous work history if applicable. In addition to this, providing documents that carry different information about yourself such as differences in date of birth differences in name and sex, where the visa officer is unable to identify your true identify, can also risk a refusal   2. PREVIOUS UK DENIAL OR BAN A previous UK visa denial or ban can lead to a future student visa refusal, if the refusal or ban is not declared in the new application and/ or if the reasons for refusal are not addressed in the new application, to satisfy the visa officer’s criteria.   3. FAILURE TO ALIGN PREVIOUS DATA WITH UKVI If you have applied for a visa to the UK in any other category such as visit, work, study, (either refused or approved) etc and in your new application you provide conflicting information that does not align with the previous application. Situations like this can lead to a current refusal or ban as it suggests that you are not being genuine in the information provided.   4. PROOF OF FUNDS / FINANCIAL DOCUMENT There are several reasons why your financial document, proving your ability to pay your fees and maintain yourself for the duration of study can lead to a refusal. Providing a bank statement less than 28 days Providing a bank statement from financial institutions that the UKVI cannot verify the authenticity of said account Providing documents with unexplained large sums of deposits and withdrawal Providing a bank statement that does not show the complete funds

Effects of Russia’s Invasion on Prospective UK Students

Effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on prospective UK students    We will be looking at the effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on prospective UK students, with Nigeria as a focus. The Russian-Ukraine war has been a troubling situation, and as the war is still on, there have been several effects all around the world.  The 2022 Russian Invasion of Ukraine occurred on February 24th, 2022, and different countries all around the world have responded in different ways. A good number of European countries that share borders with Ukraine are opening up their borders to refugees fleeing from Ukraine, countries such as Romania, Slovakia and Poland.  The United States, the United Kingdom, and some other countries in the European Union responded by placing financial sanctions on Russia. These sanctions prohibit the country from modernising its economy and seizing Putin’s ability to project power in world affairs. In addition to the sanctions, the UK government also came up with a new rule on the 15th of March 2022. This rule can be seen as a major effect of Russia’s invasion on prospective UK students from Nigeria.   Effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Nigerians going to the UK The news update for UK students that were released by the UK government in the 2nd week of March brought about a lot of questions. Questions like, has the UK seized visa processing in Nigeria? Is the UK still accepting Nigerian students? Will students with offers from UK universities still get to travel for their studies? And so much more.  These panics began as a result of the Ukraine family scheme that was created to help refugees from Ukraine. The creation of this scheme resulted in priority and super-priority for Nigeria Visas to be suspended. Also, there are possibilities that the standard visa might take longer than the usual 3 weeks due to the Ukraine family scheme. The Russian – Ukraine Invasion has brought about not just the Ukraine family scheme but also a scheme known as Homes for Ukraine.  As the days go by and the war is still ongoing, there are possibilities that new rules may be made by the UK government that may benefit or not benefit Nigerians.  Therefore, students are advised to begin their admission and visa process early, to ensure that they successfully acquire their UK students visa and travel for their studies in the UK.  Also, ever since the Russia-Ukraine war, the Nigerian economy has been unstable. There has been an increase in the price of some refined products coming into the country. Products like petroleum have been scarce and expensive ever since the start of the war, and this is a major issue that is affecting not only Nigeria but the world at large.  The economic instability of the country since the war might make it harder for prospective UK students to travel for their studies in the UK. However, they should not be discouraged. In a situation such as this, we always advise our students to make their plans ahead of time. For example, students looking to study in the UK in the year 2023, should begin to make preparations. This is so that they are able to gather enough funds and successfully study in the UK, regardless of the economic instability in the country.   Prospective Nigerian students looking to study in the UK from Ukraine  Fortunately, a good number of Nigerian students who were studying in Ukraine were able to find their way back to Nigeria. Most of these students were unable to complete their education in Ukraine before the start of the war. However, they are willing to go back to school.  Yes, it is admirable that they are considering going back to school, but after questioning some of these students, they confirm that it may be quite challenging for them. In terms of funds and how to go about the process etc. This is where Negxy Concept Limited comes in.  At the moment, we have a couple of students from Ukraine that we are helping to further their studies in the UK. On the other hand, we advise those who want to study in the UK but do not have the funds to either find a sponsor or try to make proper plans for this.  In all, yes, even though a student could not complete their studies in Ukraine, they could still study in the UK.    Effects of the Invasion on Nigerian Students currently in the UK The Homes for Ukraine Scheme, which was imposed on the 18th of March, makes it harder for students who recently travelled for their studies in the UK to find accommodation. This is so as citizens and permanent residents are giving out their homes to refugees from Ukraine.     Speak with our counsellor, for more information on the effects of Russian Ukraine war on prospective UK Student    Negxy Concept Limited is a study abroad agency in Lagos with over 5000 successful admissions and visas under its belt. How Fake Documentation Got Tope Banned from the UK

How Fake Documentation Got Tope Banned from the UK   In this blog post, you will find out how fake documentation got Tope banned from the UK, why you should avoid providing fake documentation, why you should avoid a UK ban and also, the importance of providing authentic documentation for your study abroad process. At Negxy Concept Limited, we experience different types of clients with different needs coming to us for guidance and assistance. As the number 1 study abroad agency, we try to assist them in the best way that we can. However, some situations are beyond our control.  Less than 2weeks ago, we came across a lady named Tope who was put on a 10-year UK ban. This ban was placed after fake documentation was submitted during her visa processing.  I know you wonder how fake documentation got Tope banned from the Uk?  Apparently, Tope was deceived by an agency that claimed they could help her to provide a bank statement (proof of funds) for her visa process, however, it backfired and she was placed under a ban.  Providing fake documentation as her proof of funds was how Tope was banned from the UK. Yes, we can say that the fault is from the agency. However, Tope had a huge part to play in this, and unfortunately, this will be an irreversible dent in her travel history forever.  Do note that the UK government has made travelling to the UK quite easy for International students however, this should not be taken for granted.    Avoid Fake Documentation for your Studies in the UK On the 14th of January, 2022, the Uk Immigration authority perceived that Nigerians were taking up loans for their proof of funds, and as a result, the UK no longer trusts Nigerian proof of funds. This led them to put up strict measures to guarantee the ownership of funds provided by students. These strict measures are what landed Tope in the situation she currently is in, and it should be a warning to everyone else. If you want to go to school abroad, and you can not afford to, all you need to do is to wait until you have saved up enough for your studies or you can find a family member who can sponsor your studies.  Always avoid fake documentation for your studies, to the UK or any other country of your choice as the immigration authorities have proper procedures in place. You do not want to find yourself in the situation that Tope has found herself in.  Yes, we all want a better life, we all want to be in a better country, especially due to all the crises going on in Nigeria. However, going about it in the legit and proper way will always pay off.    Why You Should Avoid Getting a UK Ban It is very important for you to avoid a UK ban at all cost. Do have in mind that once you are placed on a ban from the Uk, you will be unable to travel to or visit countries like the Republic of Ireland. On the other hand, if you are placed on a ban from the Republic of Ireland, you can still get a visa to visit or study in the UK.  The UK is a very powerful country, and there are a good number of countries that will deny you a visa if you ever get placed under a ban from the UK. Therefore, be smart when going about your study abroad process, visit Negxy Concept Limited.    Importance of Providing Authentic Documentation  Providing counterfeit documents, either as proof of funds or any other documentation needed for your studies abroad should be avoided as this can put you in a situation that may be difficult to come out from. Situations such as; Visa refusal, a ban or even deportation after entry into the country.  Providing authentic documentation will guarantee the following  High chance of getting your visa High chance of successfully travelling and living in the country of your choice  High chance of gaining good employment  High chance of even getting permanent residence.  What is important is for the immigration authorities to trust you and see that you are honest and open.    Negxy Concept Limited, The Number 1 Study Abroad Agency in Nigeria  Having a genuine, trustworthy and outstanding agency is very important, as there are a lot of fake and deceitful agencies out there. Negxy Concept Limited is and will always be your most trusted agency, we are known to be the number 1 study abroad agency in Nigeria because we provide the best services.  If Tope had first come to us for her study abroad process she definitely would not have found herself in this tight and ugly situation.    Contact Negxy concept limited today, and see yourself successfully studying in your dream country.    Negxy Concept Limited is a study abroad agency in Lagos with over 5000 successful admissions and visas under its belt. This is a scheme that permits individuals from Ukraine to join their family members in Uk. A new scheme however was also launched on Friday the 18th of March 2022, this scheme is known as, homes for Ukraine scheme. This is a scheme whereby Uk citizens or residents offer their homes to individuals from Ukraine, as a way of supporting them. These schemes were created as a reaction to the Ukraine invasion by the Russian government, a way to support Ukrainians during these tough times. A lot of Ukrainians have been rendered homeless and stranded.  For the UK to prioritise the Ukraine Family Scheme and the homes for Ukraine Scheme applications, they had to suspend Priority and Super – Priority work, study and family visa applications in Nigeria.  The total number of visas that had been issued under the Ukraine Family Scheme as of Thursday, the 17th of March 2022 had a total of 6,500 Here at Negxy Concept Limited, we have gotten a lot of inquiries on this topic, a good number of our students are scared. More Opportunities for Third-Class and HND Holders in the UK

MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR THIRD-CLASS AND HND HOLDERS IN THE UK There is no education that is ever a waste, no matter the grade, educational institution or country attended, there will always be an advantage for every knowledge gained. One of these advantages is the study opportunities that third-class and HND holders in the UK have.  Who said Third-class and HND holders can not study in the UK? Yes, they can, they have the opportunity to study a Top-up programme, a Premasters and Master’s degree programme and even a direct masters programme. They also have the chance of getting permanent residency in the UK.  Students with a third-class or HND however, should be aware that they are certain requirements and conditions needed before they can study in the UK and this varies by universities in the UK.    TOP-UP PROGRAMME  This programme is a one year programme that is strictly for HND holders, third class degree students are not open to this option. With a Top-up, a student can get a BSC certification that will enable them successfully apply to study for a master’s degree in the UK. Do have in mind that the types of courses opened to this programme are mostly IT, Business and Engineering courses. Doing a top-up programme in the UK will enable a student to stay back in the UK for as long as 4 years, this is so as the top-up is 1 year, the master’s program is 1 year and students are given a 2 years post-study permit.  Before the 2 years post-study permit ends, a student can find good employment that will enable them to stay back and work in the UK. After they have stayed in the UK for as long as 5 years, may then can apply for permanent residence.     PREMASTERS AND MASTERS DEGREE Students with an HND and Thirdclass can go for a Premasters and a Masters degree programme in the UK. The duration of a pre-masters program is determined by admission officers in UK universities, based on the Cumulative Grade Point Average of the student. The course duration can be as low as 3 – 4 months and as high as 1 year. A student can study any course of choice during a pre-masters study, however, this depends on the courses available in the University. After a pre-masters programme, they can apply for a one-year master’s program.  Students going for a pre-masters and master’s degree has the chance to stay in the UK for as long as 2 years, and are entitled to a 2 years post-study work permit. This gives HND and third-class degree students the opportunity to stay in the UK for a long period of time.    DIRECT MASTERS  Students with an HND and Third-class degree can go for a direct master’s in the UK, however, the programme that they are entitled to is an accelerated (extended) master’s. Without working experience, most universities will not accept students for this program.  Students going for a direct master’s has the opportunity to study in the UK longer than 12 months and if they are able to find good employment after their studies in the UK, they have the chance of getting permanent residence.    SCHOOLS IN THE UK THAT ACCEPTS THIRD-CLASS AND HND HOLDERS  There is a good number of universities in the UK that accepts students with HND and Third-class degree for Top-up, Premasters and direct masters. Breakdown of Funds Needed to Study in the UK

BREAK-DOWN OF FUNDS NEEDED TO STUDY IN THE UK     Before making plans for your studies, you are advised to enquire about the funds needed, to ensure that you are capable of studying and living in the UK. However, know that Negxy Concept Limited got you 101% of the time, this is why we will be writing the breakdown of funds needed to study in the UK just for you! To successfully study in the UK, you need to be able to bear the cost (the funds) that is needed for both your admission process and also your visa process. Let us give an example on the breakdown of funds needed to study in the UK with a student going to study Management and International Business at Birmingham City University.    FUNDS NEEDED FOR YOUR ADMISSION PROCESS TO THE UK  Students who have received an unconditional offer to study Management and International Business at Birmingham City University for September 2022 intake should already be aware of the tuition fee and cost of living in the UK.  The tuition fee for International students studying this course is £16, 300 per year for 2022 September and January 2023 intakes, and the cost of living in Birmingham City (Outside London ) is £9, 207.  After an unconditional offer is received, students are expected to pay up their tuition deposit. The tuition deposit for Birmingham City University is £3000. Once this payment is made, the students can deduct this amount from the Tuition fee, in order to know how much is left to pay.  £16, 300 – £3000 = £13, 300 This means that the student is left to pay £13, 300. Birmingham City University requires student’s bank statements (proof of funds) to be shown before a Pre-Cas interview can be done or a CAS can be received.  I am sure you wonder, how do you calculate your bank statement?  It is your Tuition balance + Cost of living  Which is £13, 3000 + £9, 207  =  £22, 507 When doing your conversion to Nigerian currency we always advise students to add an extra 50 – 70 Naira, due to currency fluctuations  For example, using bank rates, £1 = 557 Naira, however, we always advise students to make use of 620 Naira.  Therefore, for conversion, multiply the sum total of your tuition balance and cost of living by 620 Naira.  22,507 X 620 = 13,954,340 The student must show a bank statement with the sum total of 13,954,340 Naira and these funds must be in their account for 28 and the latest  29 days.    FUNDS NEEDED FOR YOUR UK STUDENT VISA  After CAS has been received, the students are expected to prepare for the UK Student visa, they should be aware of the funds needed for this process.  For the UK Student Visa, students are expected to do a Tuberculosis test, pay for a Visa fee and an IHS fee.  Tuberculosis Test is 57, 800 naira Visa Fee is $500  IHS Fee is $1003 for 12 months course.  In essence, the funds needed for students going for Management and International Business at Birmingham City University should be over 15, 000, 000 Naira.    However, it is important to reach out to our counsellors on the breakdown of funds needed to study in the Uk, as these prices and fees are often updated. Stay updated on the funds needed to study in the UK at all times.    Negxy Concept Limited is a study abroad agency in Lagos with over 5000 successful admissions and visas under her belt. A picture thar reads, why an up-to-date CV is needed for your admission

Why an up-to-date CV is needed for your admission

WHY AN UP-TO-DATE CV IS NEEDED  FOR YOUR ADMISSION     A CV is one of the requirements needed for your admission process and it must be an up-to-date CV. This means that as a prospective student, you must provide a CV containing updated information about yourself.  I bet you wonder why an up-to-date CV is needed for your admission right? Well, let us take a look at this scenario.    SCENARIO Ade has decided to study abroad and made up his mind that he want to study in the UK at Coventry University for May intake.  He comes to us to help him with his admission process, we let him know that he is putting in his application at the dying minute and advice him to send in his documents as soon as possible. We give him the list of admission requirements needed to study at Coventry University. These requirements are an International passport, Official transcript, Degree Certificate, WAEC/NECO, Personal Statement, updated CV and a Reference letter.  He provides all these documents but due to the lack of time, he was unable to update his CV with recent information about himself, like, filling in the years of gap in his CV (Which is, updating his work history) and ensuring that the contact information provided is accurate. His application is done using the contact information on his CV and his documents are submitted.  The admission officers the University receive his documents, they see his Passport as proof of his nationality, his transcript and degree certificate as proof of his educational background, his WAEC as proof of his English proficiency, his personal statement as proof of his intentions to study at Coventry University, his reference as proof of his character and past performance then they go through his CV and they are unimpressed.  Ade graduated from the university in the year 2012 and on his CV it states that he worked at Aqualand industry between the year 2016 – 2017 and he is currently working at ABC Ltd, from the year 2020 till date. This leaves the university admission officers wondering about the 3 years after he graduated and the 2 years gap between working at Aqualand and ABC ltd. The CV does not accurately prove his professional background, therefore he is granted a conditional Offer, with the condition to provide an updated CV.  His offer letter is sent to the email address which was provided and our agency’s email address is copied in the mail. We reach out to him to inform him about his offer and tell him to check his mailbox for the offer letter but he did not receive the mail. We then realize that the email address provided on the CV was not accurate.  Ade immediately presents the updated CV and thankfully he will still be able to meet up with the intake.    THE END   DISADVANTAGES OF PROVIDING A CV THAT IS NOT UP-TO-DATE Providing a CV that is not up-to-date can lead to getting a conditional offer or even completely missing out on your opportunity to study abroad. We have had cases of clients whose contact details (both the email address and phone number) were wrong.  To avoid being a victim of such situations, you must provide a CV containing updated information about yourself for your admission process. You should know that your CV is one of your selling points to the University as to why you should be accepted.  Another lesson learnt from this scenario is the importance of doing an early application, keep in mind that you may not be as lucky as Ade.  Start your admission process early and provide all the necessary documents.  Do not forget to present an up-to-date- CV.  Reach out to us if you need more details on the importance of providing an up-to-date CV.  Negxy Concept Limited is a study abroad agency in Lagos with over 5000 successful admissions and visas under her belt.
