All You Need to Know About the UK e-Visa as an International Student

Transitioning to the UK E-Visa for International Students As you prepare to start your studies in the UK this September 2024—or if you’ve recently arrived—there’s an important update you need to be aware of. The UK is transitioning from physical Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) to a fully digital immigration system called an e-Visa. Whether you’re a prospective student or someone who travelled in previous intakes, understanding this change is crucial for managing your immigration status. What Is a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)? For those new to the UK or planning to study here, a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) is a document that has been traditionally issued to international students. It contains vital information such as your name, date of birth, and biometric details like fingerprints and facial images. The BRP also serves as proof of your right to study and access certain public services in the UK. However, as the UK modernizes its immigration system, these physical BRP cards will be phased out by December 31, 2024. Understanding this shift is essential whether you’re just starting your academic journey or have already settled in.   Introducing the UK e-Visa: Your New Digital Immigration Status The eVisa is the future of UK immigration. Instead of carrying a physical BRP card, your immigration status will now be stored digitally. This eVisa is an online record that you can easily access to prove your right to study, work, or rent in the UK. For prospective students, this means that once you receive your visa approval, you will manage your immigration status through an online account rather than waiting for a physical BRP. Current students, especially those with BRPs expiring soon, will need to transition to this new system. For more details on the eVisa, visit the UK government’s eVisa page.   Why Physical BRPs Are Being Replaced As part of its digital transformation, the UK government has decided that all physical BRPs will expire by December 31, 2024, regardless of the original end date on the card. This move is aimed at improving efficiency and security, making it easier for international students like you to manage your immigration status. If you currently have a BRP, it’s important to begin the transition to a UK e-Visa by creating a UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) account. This digital account will become your primary means of proving your immigration status.    Transitioning to the UK e-Visa: What You Need to Do Whether you’re a prospective student preparing to arrive in September 2024 or a current student already in the UK, transitioning to an eVisa is straightforward: Set Up a UKVI Account: This account is where you’ll access and manage your eVisa. Click here to get started. Verify Your Identity: Use the ‘UK Immigration ID Check’ app to confirm your identity and link your eVisa to your UKVI account. Access and Share Your eVisa: Once verified, you can view your visa details online, share your status with landlords, employers, and educational institutions, and update your information as needed. Click here to watch a step-by-step guide on how to create your UKVI account and access your eVisa.   Preparing for September 2024: Key Steps for New Students If you’re starting your studies this September, you might still receive a BRP card, but with an expiration date of December 31, 2024. Regardless of whether you get a BRP, setting up your UKVI account is crucial for managing your immigration status digitally. Pro Tip: Create your UKVI account before arriving in the UK to streamline your transition, or complete the setup as soon as possible after your arrival. For more information, visit the UKVI registration page.   Conclusion For both prospective and current students, embracing this change will make managing your visa easier and more convenient, allowing you to focus on what matters most—your studies. At Negxy Concept Limited, we’re committed to guiding you through these changes and ensuring your study abroad experience is as smooth and successful as possible.

How to Avoid Common UK Study Visa Mistakes

How to Avoid Common Mistakes When Applying for your UK Study Visa Applying for a UK study visa can be a challenging and bewildering process, this is why it is important to work with experts like us, to assist you on how to avoid common UK Study Visa Mistakes.   WHY THE UK? The UK offers numerous opportunities for prospective International Students looking to achieve their academic goals, due to its prestigious universities and exceptional educational system. Therefore, many international students dream of studying at universities in the UK and every year, thousands of applications for UK study visas are sent in. However, it’s sad to say that many of these students end up making some common mistakes when applying for their UK study visas. In this post, we will be diving into some effective strategies to help you avoid common mistakes when applying for a UK study visa to study an Undergraduate and Postgraduate Program.   IMPORTANT POINTS TO CONSIDER BEFORE APPLYING FOR YOUR UK STUDY VISA According to the UKGOV, there are a few things you need to keep in mind before applying for a student visa. You must be 16 years of age or older Have been received an offer and CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) from a licensed sponsor university You or your parent has the financial means to support yourself and cover your degree expenses, although the exact amount will depend on your individual circumstances. You should be proficient in English, meaning you can understand, speak, read, and write the English Language.   To fulfil the criteria’s above, there are several documentations you would need to process in order to prove that you meet the requirements. It is in the process of proving these requirements that some people provide unsatisfactory documents that can lead to a refusal.   THE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR NIGERIAN STUDENTS A standard visa application process timeline takes about 3weeks for a decision to be made; however, this process can be hastened in 1 week or 24 hours through the priority or super priority visa processing service. The earliest you can apply for your UK student visa is six months before your course start date. Before you can begin your study visa application, you must have been accepted into a University, paid a deposit sum towards your tuition fee and received your CAS (Confirmation of acceptance for study) which will enable you to begin your application process. During the visa application, you would be required to fill an online application form providing personal informational details and school and course details and also provide proof that you have the financial means to support yourself. Once the online application has been provided you are then required to provide supporting documents such as personal identification document, previous education and degrees, proof of English, previous work references if applicable, family document (If moving with dependents) and other relevant documents that may be peculiar to your application such as, an affidavit, proof of financial standing, response to previous visa refusal etc   UK STUDENT VISA APPLICATION FEES When it comes to fees, there are a couple of things to consider. The visa fee itself amounts to £363, and you’ll also need to pay £705 for the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). It’s important to note that these payments are made in dollars at the time of payment. If your application is denied, you can get a refund for the IHS fees, but the rest of the fees are non-refundable. As a Nigerian, you might need to have a credit card or a debit card, which is domiciled with foreign currencies that allows you to make international payments of thousands of dollars to cover your visa processing fees. Other optional payments are Priority visa = £250 Super priority = £956 Assisted Service = ₦‎12,300 Premium Lounge = ₦‎43, 500 Prime Time = ₦‎38, 500 Flexi = ₦‎42, 000 Courier Service = ₦‎9000   WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON UK STUDY VISA APPLICATION PITFALLS There are numerous reasons why a UK study visa might be refused; however, these 5 reasons below are the most common reasons why people get a UK Student visa refusal. Let’s take a closer look at these mistakes to ensure a smooth and successful application process.   1. DOCUMENTATION Providing incomplete documentation can lead to a refusal if the visa officer is not able to verify e.g; your previous educational qualification and how it aligns with your current study, previous work history if applicable. In addition to this, providing documents that carry different information about yourself such as differences in date of birth differences in name and sex, where the visa officer is unable to identify your true identify, can also risk a refusal   2. PREVIOUS UK DENIAL OR BAN A previous UK visa denial or ban can lead to a future student visa refusal, if the refusal or ban is not declared in the new application and/ or if the reasons for refusal are not addressed in the new application, to satisfy the visa officer’s criteria.   3. FAILURE TO ALIGN PREVIOUS DATA WITH UKVI If you have applied for a visa to the UK in any other category such as visit, work, study, (either refused or approved) etc and in your new application you provide conflicting information that does not align with the previous application. Situations like this can lead to a current refusal or ban as it suggests that you are not being genuine in the information provided.   4. PROOF OF FUNDS / FINANCIAL DOCUMENT There are several reasons why your financial document, proving your ability to pay your fees and maintain yourself for the duration of study can lead to a refusal. Providing a bank statement less than 28 days Providing a bank statement from financial institutions that the UKVI cannot verify the authenticity of said account Providing documents with unexplained large sums of deposits and withdrawal Providing a bank statement that does not show the complete funds

INCREASE IN UK STUDENT VISA INTERVIEW FROM THE UKVI

UK STUDENT VISA INTERVIEW; SEPTEMBER 2023 INTAKE  There has been an increase in UK Student Visa Interviews from the UKVI, especially as the September 2023 intake draws to a close, more and more people are applying or preparing to apply for their Student Visas. Over the past couple of weeks, the increase in UK Student visa interviews from UKVI (the Home Office) has grown. These interview requests are either virtual (conducted through an audio call or a video call in a quiet and private place) or physically at the UK Embassy in Lagos or Abuja Nigeria.   Why has there been a sudden increase in UK Student interviews and who is most at risk of having an invite sent to them? Well, from what we have noticed, there is no clear pattern as to why some people are singled out for these interviews rather than simply receiving a request for more documentation through an email which is what the UKVI often does. What we can deduce however, is that people who have had RECENT MARRIAGES, PREVIOUS VISA REFUSALS and BANS or, have submitted documents that are suspected to be falsified are more at risk of receiving this invite.   What happens if you get this invite?  If you or a loved one receives an invite like this, then there is a 50% chance that the visa might be refused. This is because the application has already been flagged for one or multiple issues and if these issues are not addressed during the interview, the visa will be refused.   How can you avoid an invite if you are yet to apply for your Visa? Sometimes, this is unavoidable if you are dealing with issues such as a very recent marriage just before your application is submitted, however, you can greatly reduce your chances of receiving such an invite if you work with a VISA EXPERT such as Negxy Concept Limited, where your application receives thorough checks to limit and even possibly eliminate your chances of getting an invite. In the case where an interview request is unavoidable, you will be coached thoroughly by our Visa Expert on how to respond to every likely question that can arise during the interview.    Why you should work with NEGXY for your UK Student Visa Application Working with us as your visa expert, helps you to have a holistic view on your visa application. Firstly, our visa experts will give you thorough information on your visa process before beginning your application process. Such as  The application waiting time  The documents needed for your UK student visa  The financial Implications needed to successfully to secure your study visa  The latest UK Student visa update and how it affects you  How to avoid request of additional documents from the UKVI  Reasons for current UK Student Visa Denials and how to avoid them and so much more   With Negxy, your application will be reviewed against every factor that would be considered by the visa officer working on your case. Factors such as  Financial requirements,  Previous visa history,  Recent Marriages,  Your study documents, amongst others,  All these factors will be scrutinized to ensure it follows the set guidelines, thereby increasing your visa chances as much as 99.9% .  To ensure a smooth UK student visa process for you and your family, this September 2023 Intake, leave a comment or contact us and let us grant you that expert service that you deserve.

Travel rules such as  Passengers Locator form  The pre-departure covid test,  Day 2 Covid test Day 8 Covid test,  10 days quarantine  Fortunately, Covid 19 vaccination was established and has been distributed and administered to citizens in their different counties. Following the release of the Covid 19 vaccination, the UK gradually eased the travel rules, whereby, vaccinated individuals were requested to only provide just the day 2 covid test.  However, the UK home office just released the latest news on a new covid rule, which is to take effect from the 11th of February, 2022.  This new rule states that fully vaccinated passengers arriving in England will no longer need to take any mandatory Covid – 19 tests. The current requirement for the day – 2 arrival test will be removed but the passenger locators form will still be provided.  Those who are not fully vaccinated will still be required to provide a pre-departure covid test and a day 2 covid test upon arrival. Therefore, students with the intention to study for a program in the UK are advised to get vaccinated before beginning their admission or visa processing to the UK.    LATEST NEWS ON THE UK STUDENT VISA  In the first week of December 2021, there was an outbreak of a new Covid 19 variant, known as the Omicron covid variant. This virus was spreading rapidly and was known to be highly contagious. For the UK to be able to curb this covid variant and protect its citizens, they put up strict rules like Pre-departure covid test for both vaccinated and unvaccinated students, they banned visitor visa applicants and most importantly, they stopped the priority and super-priority visa.   What are priority and super-priority visas? Priority and Super Priority visas are fast-tracking visas, that ensures an applicant’s visa is issued within one week after applying, as against the standard 3 weeks. While priority visas are issued in one week, super-priority visas are issued in just 3 days after application.  The latest news from the UK home office on the UK student visa is that the priority visa has been opened again to students since the 24th of January, 2022. The priority services are only available to individuals applying for a UK student visa and Work visa. How to Avoid UK Student Visa Denial?

HOW TO AVOID UK STUDENT VISA DENIAL? Any prospective student seeking to study in another country must obtain a student visa from that country. For prospective UK students to have a successful visa process and avoid UK student visa denial, they must follow the rules and regulations laid down by the UK government. Disobeying these rules and processes, alongside not providing necessary documents can lead to a visa denial.   REASONS FOR A UK STUDENT VISA DENIAL  Failure to meet the UK student visa rules can result in unsuccessful visa processing and visa denial, which is quite discouraging especially when a student has high expectations after gaining admission from their desired school. To avoid a UK student visa denial and ensure a successful visa process, a student needs to know the reasons behind why one can be denied a UK student visa. Below are reasons for a UK student visa denial that prospective students should be aware of before beginning their visa process, to have a successful visa process. Incomplete Documents:  Some students present incomplete documents during their visa processing, this can lead to visa denial as complete documentation during visa processing is one of the rules while applying for a visa. Documents such as CV, Valid passport, Birth Certificate, Admission Letter,  Passport photographs, 0-level certificate, BSc Transcripts & Certificate, Bank Statement, Visa Form, Payment of Visa and IHS fees and all required documents must be presented during visa processing. Insufficient Funds: Presenting a bank statement during a visa processing is not all that matters, one needs to ensure that the cost of living and school fees is present in the bank account that is presented. If these fees are not present in the bank account, the student will be seen to have insufficient funds and this can lead to a visa denial.  Therefore the bank statement should show proof of funds, that can take care of him or herself and pay their tuition fee while studying in the UK. Gap years: If a student has not done anything productive or cannot show that he/she has done something fruitful either after their bachelor’s degree or years after ending a certain career, then they may have a high chance of getting a visa denial. Gap years should be justified and backed up to avoid UK student visa denial Lack of proper interview skills: Prospective study abroad students need to be fully prepared before going for a visa interview. At Negxy Concept Limited we have prepared some mock questions (Possible questions asked during a visa interview) for our students, to help them know what to say, how to act and interact with the interviewer, to fully prepare them for their visa interview.  Without these preparations, a student may lack the interview skills that are required and this can lead to a student visa denial. English Language proficiency:  Since the UK is an English-speaking country, students are required to provide either a pass in their senior secondary school English result or an English Level Test. Providing these is the only way to assess a students English Level skills and ensure that they have a high level of English Language proficiency to avoid the risk of getting a student visa denial.   HOW TO AVOID UK STUDENT VISA DENIAL Provide all Documents: During a visa process, while a student is submitting all the required documents, they should ensure that they submit the original documents, instead of copies/photocopies or printouts. Possess good Interview Skills: During a visa interview, students must be as natural as they can, answer all questions in English and ensure that they provide accurate pieces of information, to ensure that they have a successful visa process. Provide Proof of Funds: At Negxy Concept Limited we always advise our students to make use of a commercial bank account for their proof of funds and ensure that their bank statement is presented in the correct format. Also, moving heavy funds from the bank account would lead to a reduction in the amount required as proof of funds, therefore it should be avoided. Present an appropriate Bank Statement: Avoid the risk of getting a student visa denial by providing a bank statement of  28 continuous days and not submitting a bank statement that is more than 31 days old Availability: Not responding to email or telephone queries from the visa office can lead to a visa denial. During the visa process until after the student visa is granted, students are advised to be available and stay in touch at all times.   WHAT TO DO AFTER A VISA DENIAL  If a student receives a UK visa denial and they are still interested in going to study their desired course in the university of their choice, they should be aware that their admission still holds and therefore they can defer the admission until the next university intake. What they need to do after getting a visa denial is to find out the reason for the denial and make more google research or better still contact our agents to ensure that the same mistake does not occur during their next visa application. If the cause of the visa denial was due to an incomplete document, they must ensure they provide all the necessary documents required before applying again, and if it was because of insufficient funds, they must ensure they have sufficient funds before making another application. At Negxy Concept Limited, our goal is to assist students not just during their admission processing but also in their visa processing. We give the best services to our students and ensure that their dream of travelling abroad for their studies is actualized.
