How to get Permanent Residency in Ireland

HOW TO GET PERMANENT RESIDENCY IN IRELAND Ireland has become a popular study abroad destination that ranks highly for quality education with many strong programs in a variety of areas. One of the numerous reasons to study in Ireland is that it provides students with highly advantageous experience and globally recognised qualifications that will boost their employability. A good number of international students in Ireland look forward to securing permanent residency after finishing their studies in Ireland, not only because of the quality education but also because of its robust economy, job opportunities and serenity. If you have ever wondered how to get permanent residency in Ireland by studying a program like Nursing, it is important to know that there are a few steps to achieve this and these steps are: Securing an admission Getting a student visa Getting a residence permit Working while studying Getting employed   SECURING AN ADMISSION. Securing admission to any prestigious university in Ireland like Munster Technological University is the first step to getting permanent residency in Ireland. The decision to move from one country to another for higher education is undoubtedly a big decision but when you think about so many factors, like Personal, Social and Economic reasons, one will see that studying abroad is a unique opportunity to change the environment and lead a new life.   GETTING A STUDENT VISA. The next step to getting a permanent residency in Ireland is knowing what type of visa is required for your study program. A Nursing program will require a D type study visa with a stamp 2 on your passport, but a program that lasts less than 3 months, will require a C type study visa. However, to increase your chances of getting a PR in Ireland, you are advised to get a D type study visa and study a program with a course length of 1-2 years in other to have the privilege of a post-study work permit. To get a permanent residency in Ireland you are required to have lived in Ireland for up to 5 years, therefore, studying a BA, MA or a PhD degree will get you a post-study work permit, which increases your stay in Ireland and gets you closer to permanent residency.   GETTING A RESIDENCE PERMIT. The next step to getting permanent residency in Ireland is to register at the local GNIB immediately after you arrive in Ireland, to get a residence permit. The residence permit allows you to stay in the country for up to 12 months and receive a Certificate of Registration (known as a Green Book), which must be renewed before it expires.   WORKING WHILE STUDYING.  During your studies in Ireland, you are permitted to find a casual job as this will enable you to acquire knowledge and experience that will be needed for numerous job opportunities after studies. You will be permitted to work for 20 hours per week during the semester and 40 hours per week during holiday periods.   GETTING EMPLOYED. The post-study work permit allows you as an international student to stay in Ireland even after your graduation so that you may find work for at least 2 years. However, your goal before your post-study work permit expires should be to secure good employment, as this will enable you to swiftly transition into an Irish general work visa with a stamp 1G on your passport. The Irish general work permit is initially granted for two years, after which you can decide to extend your stay or simply get permanent residency.   BECOME A PERMANENT RESIDENT IN IRELAND.  At this stage, you will be eligible to apply for permanent residency as you must have already lived in Ireland for up to 5 years, you must have a stable income along with a full-time job and good moral conduct with no criminal record. While applying for an Irish permanent residency you will get a stamp 4 on your passport, which is valid for 5 years and is renewable. Students with a third-class degree and HND in the UK

Opportunities for Students with a Third-Class Degree and HND in the UK

OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS WITH A THIRD-CLASS DEGREE AND HND IN THE UK.   Firstly, one should know that education is a lot more than just going to school and getting a degree, it is about widening one’s knowledge, it is the passport for the future. Therefore, there are opportunities in the UK for students with a third-class degree program and a Higher National Diploma (HND) program.    THIRD-CLASS IN A BACHELORS DEGREE PROGRAM. A Third-class degree is the lowest degree achievable in most modern universities with a grade point of 1.50 – 2.50 and a percentage of 40% – 50%.   Some students struggle to get high results during their bachelor’s degree program because they may find their course of study challenging, and unfortunately end up with a third-class degree. This may lead them to believe that they can only get jobs that involve answering telephones, making coffee, or handling a broom or a mop.  These students however are determined to further their studies and get a post-graduate degree that will open doors to more career opportunities. They should know that it is possible for them to get good opportunities to further their education regardless of their bachelors degree, and can find a decent job in a corporate organization.    A HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) PROGRAM. A higher national diploma program is a continuation of a national diploma (ND) program which are offered by Polytechnics, Monotechnics, and colleges of agriculture accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). It is a one-year degree program that uses study and practical elements to prepare a student for a particular career. Students with an HND degree can do a top-up degree program that will enable them to get a bachelors degree or a masters degree program.    Some students with a third-class in their bachelor’s degree program and others with just a higher national diploma (HND) program believe that they are not eligible to go for masters degree programs, however, they should be aware that admissions requirements for postgraduate courses vary by university, and an undergraduate degree is not the only factor in gaining a place for further study.    CAN HND AND THIRD-CLASS DEGREE HOLDER STUDY IN THE UK? Yes, HND degree holders and students with a third class in their bachelor’s degree program can study a masters degree program in the UK. There are numerous opportunities for students that fall under this category, however, there are some conditions following this.  A student with a third-class degree can do a direct one year masters degree program at Coventry University in the UK. However, they are required to provide up to 5 years of working experience and a CGPA of up to 2.0 and above.  With this opportunity, a student can study any course of their choice related to their background and work experience Students with a Higher National Diploma (HND) and a Bachelors degree with a third-class CGPA can get 15 months or 2 years accelerated Masters degree program in the UK, such schools are Birmingham City University (BCU), the University of Sunderland and Sheffield Hallam University.  It is important to know that there are conditions that must be met before a student can be granted admission into these school. These conditions are as follows  The student must write an English level test.  The students are restricted to only business courses like international business management, marketing, human resources etc Get more information on this topic, ‘Opportunities for students with a third-class degree and HND in the UK’ on our youtube channel, which was presented by one of our Counsellors. IELTS and other English Level Tests

IELTS AND OTHER ENGLISH LEVEL TESTS IELTS known as the International English Language Testing System is an English level test taken by prospective study abroad, students. It is one of the most popular standardised tests of English language proficiency. IELTS and other English level tests consist of four modules that need to be completed, these modules are: listening, reading, writing and speaking modules, which assess one’s abilities in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English Language. All modules need to be completed to obtain a band score. If a prospective study abroad student is looking at studying or working in an English-speaking country then they must demonstrate a high level of English Language proficiency. This is why many reputable universities and colleges demand that prospective study abroad students take either  IELTS or other English level tests to ensure they are fluent in the English Language. It is important for prospective study abroad students in countries like Nigeria whose official language is English, to know that they do not need to write an English level test if they pass the English language exam in their Senior Secondary School Examination, except if they are applying to a country like Ireland that makes it compulsory. Writing an English Level Test also helps one’s chances for  Canada and USA student visa application. A student with grades lower than credit in the examination will be mandated to take an English Level Test. Some English Level tests are divided into two different versions, these are: The General Training version The Academic Version The Academic Version is for students who wish to study in English-speaking countries, at their universities, colleges or other institutions of higher education. The General Training Version is for people who wish to gain work experience or undertake non-academic training in English-speaking countries. Therefore, prospective study abroad students is expected to take the academic version of an English level test.   IMPORTANCE OF ENGLISH LEVEL TESTS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS These days, universities and colleges worldwide offer numerous courses taught exclusively in English, making it easier for international students to enrol in their study programmes. Therefore, when a student applies to a university outside their home country, they will most likely need an English-language certificate, which proves they have enough knowledge to participate in classes, understand the textbooks and complete their assignments. To acquire this certificate, an English level test has to be taken. It is hard for a student to move forward with learning if they do not know where they are headed, however, the English Level Test provides a clear path for developing English language skills, step by step. It’s a great way to reward achievement and build confidence for the next step in their learning journey.   TYPES OF ENGLISH LEVEL TESTS IELTS: The International English Language testing system was established in 1989 and it is jointly managed by the British Council and IDP (International Development Program) Education Ltd. This English level test consists of the General training version and the Academic version with a duration of about 2 hours 45 minutes and a 0-9 grading system. For a student to be admitted for English-taught programmes, they require scores ranging between 5.5 and 7.0. This score is released 14 working days after the exam is taken, on the IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) and is valid for 2 years. TOEFL: This English Level test is known as The Test of English as a Foreign Language which was introduced in the year 1964 and is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) in the US. This English level test consists of only the Academic version with a duration of about 4 hours. Each module is graded with up to 30 points, is which adds up to a maximum score of 120 points, some schools accept students with a score as low as 70 points, and others as high as 110. This score is released in 10 working days and is valid for 2 years. PEARSON: This English Level test is commonly known as the Pearson Test of English (PTE) and it was introduced in the year 1982, administered by Edexcel, the largest examining body of academic and vocational in the UK. This English level test consists of the General training version and the Academic version with a duration of about 3 hours and a 10-90 points grading system. For better and standard university options, it is expected to score in the range of 65-75 or above. However, a score of 50-63 is considered competent. This score is released in 5 working days and is valid for 2 years. DUOLINGO: Duolingo English Level Test is a modern language proficiency tool designed for today’s international students and institutions, which was introduced in the year 2012. This English level test consists of only the Academic version with a duration of about 1 hour and a 10-160 points grading system. BIOMETRIC RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR UK INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS.  Ever wondered what a Biometric residence permit (BRP) is and why it is important to international students and prospective study abroad students at large?  Then you should be aware that a biometric residence permit (BRP) is an identity card showing that you have the right to study or work in the UK. International students can pick up their BRP card anytime after the completion of their required self-Isolation. Also, universities have stopped receiving BRP cards for students due to the pandemic and the lockdown requirements but depending on the university where you are granted admission, your BRP can be sent directly to your home address. This can be done once you have presented evidence of your entry to the UK to the Immigration and Compliance Team and you used the university’s BRP ACL code in your visa application.    Meet our counsellors at Negxy Concept Limited to get the opportunity to study in reputable universities in the UK and get more information on Uk visa processing.    Negxy Concept Limited is a study abroad agency in Lagos with over 5000 successful admissions and visas under her belt. UK Point Based System

UK points-based system UK points-based system which treats EU and non-EU citizens equally was implemented in January 2021. On the 31st of December, free movement with the European Union (EU) ended and new arrangements were put in place for EU citizens. The Uk points-based system brought about new immigrant routes which are opened to EU and non-EU citizens to apply to work, live and study in the UK. Although there are conditions to earning these privileges, the sole purpose for this new system that was put in place by the UK government is to attract people who can contribute to the UK’s economy. UK points-based system requires EU and non-EU citizens to have 70 points upon entering the country. These points are given based on certain qualifications which an individual who wants to study, work or live in the UK must possess.    UK points-based system for international students and skilled workers.   International students The United Kingdom’s points-based system introduced the student’s route and the postgraduate immigration route for EU and non-EU students with the hope to attract 600,000 international students to universities in the United Kingdom by 2030. Minister for Future Borders and Immigration, Kevin Foster said, “Now we have left the EU, we are free to unleash this country’s full potential, implement the changes we need to restore trust in the immigration system and attract talent to drive our economy forward. Launching the student route in the UK points-based system sends a clear message to the world that we want the best and brightest to come to the United Kingdom to study at our globally renowned education institutions” However, international students to study in the United Kingdom are required to gain not less than 70 points to qualify for a study visa. This was implemented to improve the previous Tier 4 visa route for international students who are applying to study in the UK.  For a student to achieve this and get their application accepted they must hold an offer from a recognized UK university; have proof of English language proficiency (credit in SSCE English or IELTS and others) and evidence of sufficient funds. This new points-based system will allow international students who have completed a degree at a UK institution to remain in the UK to work at any skill level for two years after graduation (three years for PhD graduates) and to switch into work routes if they find a suitable job.   Skilled worker UK Points based system includes a route for skilled workers who have a job offer from an approved employer sponsor. The skilled worker route represents a significant change for employers recruiting from outside the UK. Its guide provides an overview of the points‑based immigration system and sets out the steps employers should take to adapt their business. At the end of a student’s post-study graduate immigration route, they can qualify for a work visa in the UK if they meet a specific set of requirements for which they will score points. In the UK points-based system for skilled workers, a total of 70 points is needed to be able to apply to work in the UK. To attain these points for the skilled worker route under the UK points-based system, the following are required.       A job offer at a specific skill level of  RQF3 or above which is equivalent to A level.       The job offer must be from a licensed sponsor (employer).       Have the ability to speak English in the required standard       The job offer must reach the general salary threshold of £25,600 or the specific salary requirement for their occupation (going rate). As part of the skilled worker route, applicants in the health maintenance field can secure a health and care visa with a job from the NHS (National Health Service). It enables them to come to the UK to work in eligible health occupations, the social care sector or organizations that provide services to the NHS.   Benefits of the UK points-based system.       Thanks to the UK points-based system, application and payment of Visa can be made online.       There will be no limit on the number of international students who are allowed to study in the UK under this new process.       Students outside the UK may apply for visas six months before their course starts.       The privilege to look for employment in the UK at any skill level for up to 2 or 3 years to switch into the skilled work routes       Students will be able to apply for the skilled worker route by ‘trading’ points on specific characteristics against their salary. The UK Graduate Immigration Route for International Students

THE UK GRADUATE IMMIGRATION ROUTE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS   The UK Government demonstrated its support and commitment towards the education sector for international students when it agreed to retain the brightest and the best international student to contribute to society through the new graduate immigration route. This sets out an ambition to increase the number of international higher education students in the UK by 600,000 in the year 2030.   The new graduate immigration route which will be effective from the 1st of July, 2021 is to enable students who have completed their degree to live and work in the UK for as long as 3years. International students or prospective international students who have plans to study for a bachelor or a master’s degree program are eligible to stay back after graduation for 2 years, while PhD graduates are eligible to stay back for 3years.   During this period, a graduate can work in any sector and at any level without any minimum salary requirements or the need for visa sponsorship.   At the end of the post-study graduate immigration route, students are to leave the UK or apply for a different visa such as a Tier 2 General work Visa. This visa requires students to have an employment offer before application, with minimum skills and salary level. To attain the tier 2 visa, students are being advised to find good employment during their 2 or 3 years’ stay back after graduation.   CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS  FOR THE GRADUATE IMMIGRATION ROUTE VISA.   The Graduate Route will be available to students who graduate with a valid visa (Tier 4 or Student Route) on or after 1 July 2021. Students will be required to pay a visa fee of £700 and an immigration health surcharge at a full rate of £624 per year   THE UK GRADUATE IMMIGRATION ROUTE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS STUDYING REMOTELY.   The government recognizes the students who are studying remotely due to the pandemic and has put in place the following conditions for such students to follow, to enable them eligible for the graduate immigration route.   Students taking a 12 months course or less that started in the year 2020 and have not travelled to the UK to study that course are expected to arrive in the UK by 21st of June, 2021.
